Brenda S. Tolian is a New Orleans-based author whose work pulses with her surroundings' vibrant and eerie energy, whether she writes of the southwestern desert or the New Orleans French Quarter. As the author of Blood Mountain, published by Raw Dog Screaming Press, and other works, Brenda has carved a unique niche in the literary world, blending haunting narratives and poetry with inspiration from the gothic, folk horror, and the grotesque. She writes the Queer, dark, and philosophical, exploring the p internal spaces rarely talked about with visceral symbolism. Her work has been featured in numerous anthologies and publications, representing her talent in contemporary, academic, and dark literature.

Brenda S. Tolian holds degrees from Adams State University, a Creative Writing MFA from Regis University, and a Doctorate in English Literature Pedagogy from Murray State University. Brenda S. Tolian is a Professor of English and an active HWA and Angela Carter Society member.

Her work has appeared in numerous anthologies such as Listen To Your Skin: An Anthology of Queer and Self Love101 Proof Horror,  Consumed Tales Inspired by The WendigoThe Jewish Book Of Horror, and Twisted Pulp Magazine issue 3Brenda also writes academically on subjects such as postmodernism, obscure literature, textuality, and biography, centering on themes of female agency within autobiography and horror.

Recent work is featured in “Ba’lat Ov,” Gramarye, The Journal of the Chichester Center for Fairy Tales, Fantasy and Speculative Fiction, Issue 23,2023. Her poetry has appeared in various publications, and she was a featured poet for the HWA publication Showcase Vol.8. Currently, she is hard at work editing her forthcoming novel, a book of poetry, and a nonfiction text, all set to hit shelves in the coming months.
